Orders and order files — downloading, retrying and regenerating

The Orders page and the Order files page — statuses, bulk downloads, Retry Failed, Regenerate, the 90 and 180-day windows, and the customer's source images.

Orders in the app lists every order with a customised item and the state of its print artwork. Order files opens one order: every line's thumbnail, preview and final print files, with buttons to download, retry or regenerate. This page walks both.

The Orders page

Each row shows the order, a status badge, a Jobs count ("3/3", with "(1 failed)" in red when relevant), the date, and two actions:

  • Order files — opens the order's files page.
  • Retry Failed — appears only when the order has failed jobs. Re-queues them.

Statuses

BadgeMeaning
PendingRender jobs are queued.
ProcessingFiles are rendering. Usually under a couple of minutes.
CompletedEvery file is ready.
ReusedThe same design was already rendered for another line or order, so the files were reused rather than rendered again. Treat as Completed.
FailedAt least one job failed. See when a render fails.

While any order is Pending or Processing the page auto-refreshes every few seconds ("Auto-refreshing — N orders in progress").

Finding orders. Search by order number, filter by Status or by Start Date / End Date, and sort by date.

Downloading artwork in bulk

  • Tick orders and click Download artwork in the header. The app zips every completed print file for the selected orders in your browser.
  • Set a date range with no orders ticked and the bar reads "N orders in date range" with a Download all in range button.

For continuous or high-volume pulls use the Artwork Export API instead.

The Order files page

Click Order files on an order. The header offers Download final artwork (a zip of every print file — enabled once all jobs are completed) and Refresh.

The Customer designs card lists each customised line item with four columns:

ColumnWhat it is
ProductTitle, variant, quantity, and the Edit design button. An Edited badge appears once you've changed the design.
Cart thumbnailThe small image shown in the cart and order admin.
Cart previewThe larger multi-side preview the shopper saw.
Final artworkThe print-ready file(s) — one per print file in the template.

Each cell shows a status badge and the file type and size, and offers Preview, Download and — where it makes sense — Regenerate. While a file is rendering the cell shows Generating….

Regenerate

Regenerate re-renders that file from the saved design. Use it when:

  • a file failed and you've fixed the cause (an asset or font you've since restored);
  • you changed a template's output settings after the order and need the file at the new spec;
  • a side was missing because it wasn't placed on a print file — fix the template, then regenerate.

Regenerating the final artwork writes the new file to the order and updates the download links, the order metafield and the Export API feed. Regenerating the thumbnail or preview only changes those images.

Artwork Jobs

While anything is unfinished, an Artwork Jobs card lists each job — type (Artwork, Thumbnail, Preview), status, attempts and the last error — with a Retry button on failures. It disappears once every file is ready. A job marked Superseded by edit was replaced by a later design edit.

Customer source images

The Customer source images card lists the images behind the design: the shopper's Original upload, the version Used in artwork (for example after background removal), and any Word Art or Icon images. Open or Download each one, or Download all. This is the file to reach for when a customer asks for their photo back, or when you want to retouch an upload by hand.

The same images are available in bulk through the Source Images Export API.

When a render fails

Common causes:

  • A sticker, background, mask or font used in the design was deleted from Design Assets.
  • A custom font's file went offline at its URL.
  • The shopper's upload was corrupt.
  • The side wasn't placed on a print file in the template.

Fix the cause, then click Retry Failed on the Orders page or Regenerate on the file. The order tag flips from px-artwork-failed to px-artwork-ready when it succeeds. If it keeps failing, open the job's error in the Artwork Jobs card and send it to hey@pixelwrangler.io with the order number.

The 90-day and 180-day windows

  • For 90 days after the order, the design's source data is kept, so you can regenerate files and edit the design.
  • After 90 days the Order files page shows "Regeneration unavailable — This order is older than 90 days." Existing files stay downloadable until 180 days after the order date.
  • After 180 days the files are removed.

Pull what you need into your own storage after fulfilment. The Artwork Export API is the supported way to do that in bulk.

Download Artwork from the Shopify order page

You don't have to open the app. On any order in your Shopify admin, More actions → Download Artwork shows the print-ready artwork status with a Download button, and a Download source images button for the customer's uploads.
