Wrangler AI overview

Four AI tools built into the customizer — background removal, image generation, style transfer, graphic text.

Wrangler AI is four tools that live inside the customizer. They're pay-per-use — you're billed only for what you run. They work for you in the template builder and for your customers on the storefront.

The four tools

ToolWhat it doesPrice
Background removalStrips the background from an uploaded image$0.005 / image
Image generationGenerates an image from a text prompt$0.06 / image
Style transferRestyles an uploaded photo in a preset visual style$0.06 / image
Graphic textGenerates stylised typographic artwork from plain text$0.06 / design

Usage is billed monthly via Stripe, separate from your Shopify subscription — different invoices, different cards if you want.

Where the tools show up

In the template builder. Click any image placeholder and you'll see the AI tools in the side panel. Run background removal on an asset before saving, generate a placeholder image to test the template, build a graphic text element on the spot.

On the storefront customizer. Tools you've enabled on a template show up in the customer toolbar. Customer usage bills to your account — there's no per-customer billing, no separate accounts. They use the tools, the usage accrues on your monthly bill.

Turning tools on per template

Each tool is on/off per template in the AI tools panel:

  • Background removal — usually on. Lets customers clean up the photos they upload.
  • Image generation — on for products where customer-made artwork is the point (cards, posters). Off for products with tight brand artwork (jerseys, uniforms).
  • Style transfer — on for photo products where a consistent look sells (pet portraits, caricature prints). You choose the style presets customers pick from.
  • Graphic text — on for products where typographic personalisation is the whole pitch (signs, mugs, prints).

Disable them all on a template and the toolbar still works fine — it just won't show your customer the AI options.

Session limits — your cost control

Each template sets how many AI generations and background removals a customer gets per design session. A shopper making a card might reasonably generate three or four images; nobody needs forty.

When a customer hits the limit, their last result stays on the canvas and the tool stops offering more runs. The design still works, checkout still works. Set the limits in the AI tools panel per template.

Image generation quality

You choose whether customers can pick a quality level when generating:

  • Low — faster, lower resolution
  • High — slower, best for products that need fine detail

Both cost the same per image. Let customers choose on poster-sized products; lock it to one level when the choice would just be noise.

Auto-clean on generated images

By default, generated images come with their backgrounds already removed before they land on the canvas. Cleaner composition, no extra clicks for the customer, no extra charge.

Turn the auto-clean off in the AI tools panel if your product wants the full image with background — a poster, a full-bleed print.

What customers see

The toolbar shows the AI tools you've enabled. Customers don't see your usage or billing — they don't need to. If a monthly payment fails, AI tools quietly disable on the storefront and customers see the regular non-AI flow until you settle up.
